Bagan is an inland ancient city located on the eastern bank of the Irrawaddy in central Myanmar. It was the capital of the first kingdom that started modern Myanmar and has been added to UNESCO's World Heritage List since July 2019. Over four thousand Buddist temples,pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains from the 9 th to the 13 th centuries. The surviving half of these architectural marvels seem to overwhelm the natural landscape and contribute to the region's nascent tourism boom. Great art, heritage sites, spiritual locals and hot-air ballooning at sunrise are as pleasing to our visions as to our minds. This series of photographs was taken during my trip to Bagan in January last year when the climate was perfect for hot-air balloon flights.
